Research Catalogue at Aalto
The Research Catalogue (RC) is an international platform dedicated to artistic research, providing researchers with a space to document, publish, share and develop research through artistic practice.
At Aalto University鈥檚 School of Arts, Design and Architecture, the RC Portal provides an institutional space where researchers can make parts of their artistic research accessible as a repository, point of reference and archive. Researchers can document research processes, artistic practices, publications, images, materials and other forms of research output, creating a lasting record of their work conducted at Aalto.
The Research Catalogue also connects Aalto researchers to the wider international field of artistic research. It provides opportunities to publish research in dedicated platforms and journals, including JAR 鈥 Journal for Artistic Research, RUUKKU 鈥 Studies in Artistic Research, VIS 鈥 Nordic Journal for Artistic Research, and HUB 鈥 Journal of Research in Art, Design and Society.
Through the Research Catalogue, artistic research at Aalto becomes more visible, accessible and connected internationally, while creating a shared institutional record of the diverse forms of knowledge generated through artistic practice.
Research Catalogue in Doctoral Education
The Research Catalogue is also integrated into doctoral-level education at Aalto. In the Research through Art and Design course, doctoral students take part in a dedicated 2-credit workshop introducing the Research Catalogue and its possibilities for artistic research.
The workshop gives researchers practical knowledge of how to use the platform to document, structure and communicate their research. Students explore how the Research Catalogue can support their individual research processes, from documenting artistic practice and research materials to presenting emerging findings and developing research outcomes.
Learning to use the platform at an early stage of doctoral research also prepares researchers for publishing in the international journals and platforms that use the Research Catalogue. In particular, researchers are introduced to the format of the exposition鈥攁 flexible form of research presentation that allows artistic research to be communicated through combinations of text, images, video, sound, documentation and other media.
Research Catalogue supports the full trajectory of artistic research at Aalto鈥攆rom research documentation and development to publication, dissemination and long-term archiving.
