Scientific meetings
AScI is soliciting proposals for organizing scientific meetings. For this purpose, we offer funding of up to 5000€ per meeting (exceptiolly up to 10K). The format and the focus of the planned scientific meeting (workshop, small conference, school) are free, and the event should take place within one year of the application, although a later date may be negotiated. Members of the faculty at the School of Science are eligible to apply (here, members of the faculty are defined as those persons who can apply for project funding in the role of an accountable project leader at the School of Science, as per Dean's decision 196/2018 10 Oct 2018).
The supported events will be chosen based on scientific quality, international attendance, impact of AScI funding, and visibility for Aalto. The intention of the call is to support events where a faculty member of the School of Science is the main organiser. Junior faculty are particularly encouraged to apply. Typical cases would be small meetings organized locally (Aalto campus, or in Finland) or larger ones, where Aalto has a key role in the organization.
Event proposals of a maximum length of one (1) page are to be submitted electronically to asci@aalto.fi. The proposal should address the following questions:
- Scientific focus of the event.
- Why is the meeting important for Aalto?
- Internationalization, excellence, collaboration and the strengths of the proposal organizers within the area.
- Planned structure and speakers (tentative), date, location.
- Tentative budget, including plans for other funding (is the AScI contribution crucial?).
The call is continuous, and submitted proposals will be formally decided at the AScI Steering Group meetings four (4) times a year: in March (applications 1 December to 28 February), in June (applications 1 March to 31 May), in September (applications 1 June to 31 August) and in December (applications 1 September to 30 November). For the evaluation of the scientific impact, if or when necessary, external experts will be consulted.
