Virtual Analog Synthesis and Audio Effects
We are developing discrete-time algorithms to simulate the analog filters and the waveform generation of analog music synthesizers.
Analysis and Synthesis of the Piano Sound
Piano synthesis has become commercially very popular due to the success of digital pianos and synthesizers using sampling technique.
Perception of Musical Instrument Sounds
At Aalto, the perception of synthetic string instrument sounds has been studied in formal listening tests
Headphone Audio and Augmented Reality
In this project, the focus is in developing new techniques, applications, and interfaces for future personal appliances which are wearable and support full-duplex high-quality audio and voice transmission.
Software
This section contains links to publicly available code contributed by the researchers of the Communications Acoustics Group.
Acoustical Measurements
Research on acoustical measurements support our work on spatial audio and head-related acoustics.
Head-related Acoustics
High-quality binaural reproduction is one of our research interests. Previously, we have developed perceptually good binaural reproduction combining the Directional Audio Coding method with tracking of head oriention.
Psychophysics
Our research in psychophysics concentrates mainly on psychoacoustics but addresses also the cross-modal interactions in audiovisual context.
Spatial Audio Techniques
Our research in spatial audio technologies concentrates mainly on non-linear methods of capturing, transmitting, synthesizing, and reproducing spatial sound scenes.

Country-specific document requirements
There are country-specific document requirements for educational documents awarded in certain countries (after admission).
If the country-specific requirement concerns one document only (e.g. transcript of records), the rest of the educational documents must be submitted according to the general document instructions.

Remote Sensing Research Team
We focus on developing methods for monitoring vegetation from space. We have a diverse combination of expertise in remote sensing, spectroscopy, radiative transfer modelling, laser scanning, and forest and environmental sciences.

Research Groups
Department of Computer Science hosts several active research groups. Groups are listed in alphabetical order.
