A! Walk

A! Walks is a summer course centered around walking-based learning, exploring Otaniemi campus and its surrounding urban–natural spaces. Rather than standalone lectures or experiments, the program is designed as a curated sequence of sensory, interdisciplinary walks, guiding participants toward experiences in coexistence, awareness, action, and futures. If successful, A! Walks may be continued during the regular semester.

Webinar on Psychological Safety and Focused Work at the Heart of Community Well-being

Academic work requires ideas to be challenged and developed collectively, while also requiring space for independent thought. This lecture explores how both external and internal distractions and interruptions can be reduced to support deep engagement and a sense of control over one’s work. In addition to practical working conditions, the psychological safety—or lack of it—within a community can either support or undermine focused work. Psychological safety enables members of a work community to ask questions, voice differing views and share ideas that are still taking shape. It creates a sense of safety and belonging that supports commitment to the community, motivation, collaboration and creativity. The lecture examines what psychological safety means in a university context and lays the groundwork for strengthening it. It combines perspectives on psychological safety and cognitive ergonomics: how to develop both one’s own work and the work community to make them safer and more productive.
The lecture provides practical ideas and tools for developing your community and your own ways of working. The session is designed to be enjoyable and easy to follow without requiring participants to stare continuously at a computer screen. We recommend listening while out for a walk, as movement supports cognitive functioning and can stimulate new insights. The lecture is delivered by Marianne Vihervuori, a psychologist at Kuntoutussäätiö, whose lectures have been praised as inspiring. Marianne Vihervuori uses storytelling and experiential approaches to bring research findings and professional expertise to life.
