Library card and borrowing

You need a valid library card to borrow and reserve printed materials from the Learning Centre. The library card is for personal use only and as a customer you are always responsible for the materials borrowed with your card.

You can get a library card from the Aalto University Learning Centre during customer service hours with a valid ID with a picture. You need to have a Finnish postal address to be able to get a library card. Usage regulations of the Learning Centre apply to all customers.

Borrowing

Borrowing at Aalto University’s Learning Centre requires a valid library card. You can use either a physical or a digital library card. At the self-checkout machine, in addition to the library card you need a four-digit PIN code.

The borrower is responsible for the use of their library card. The library card is personal. The card may not be transferred to another person.

Reserving

To make a reservations you need a valid library card. Only items that are checked out or otherwise not available can be reserved. You will receive an email when the material you reserved is ready for pickup. Pick up your reservation as self service.

Short-term loans and items you already have on loan cannot be reserved.

Loan renewals

You can renew your loans by signing in ɫɫÀ²-Primo. A loan cannot be renewed if there are requests for the item or if your borrowing rights have been suspended. Short-term loans of textbooks (24h-loan) cannot be renewed. 

Returning loans

Return your borrowed materials at the return machine located next to the Learning Centre’s customer service desk in the main lobby. When the building is closed, book loans can be returned via the book drop.

Don’t forget to update your contact information

As a customer of the Learning Centre it is your duty to notify us of updates in your contact information.

Aalto University students and staff update their information directly to the university back end system (Sisu, Workday). These updates are transferred directly to the library system.

Other customers update their information by signing into or by contacting the Learning Centre customer service.
