5G Research
The “5G Research @ Aalto” consists of multidisciplinary research groups from different departments and schools at Aalto University. It actively collaborates with other universities and companies worldwide, engaged in many ongoing projects such as EU project METIS, EIT ICT M2MRISE, EIT ICT 5GrEEn, EIT Digital ACTIVE-HII, Take-5G, and involved in preparing many upcoming projects. This website introduces some of the activities of the research groups.

Research activities fall within following categories
Cloud Communications
In C-RAN, the radio access network (RAN) functionality is moved to the cloud computing infrastructure. Remote radio units (RRU) of different cells are connected to the cloud via a high speed front-haul link, such as a fiber network.
A virtualized mobile LTE network together with the mobile backhaul deployed with the Software Defined Networks (SDN) would be able to provide the required elasticity to match available resources to the traffic demand.
